What's Up in the Art Room - Nov. 2018
JK and Kindergarten artists are beginning a collage unit. They are leaning to use scissors and glue sticks well, and to create pictures with cut paper.
First grade art classes are about to complete their castle drawings. They learned to draw the bricks and stones their castles are made of and to color carefully. We are finishing the project by sharing complements and celebrating the art.
The artists of second grade are almost finished using oil pastels to blend, layer, smudge, and add texture to their planets. Their next step is using watercolors to paint dark colors in the night sky.
Third grade students are nearly done with their geometric patterned mosaics. These artists are adding the finishing touches to their masterpieces and helping friends do the same.
Fourth grade artists have completed contour drawings of their role models and are ready to begin adding descriptive words to their portraits. Students are learning about typography and creating their own fonts to complete their word portraits.
The artists of fifth grade are wrapping up a unit on masks. After learning about the traditions and styles of African masks, students created their own masks that have form and represent individual style. Fifth graders are writing reflections and beginning to critique their work.
