Liana Kingsley, Art Teacher
βThe art program is designed to help students become fearless
art-makers. Students gain confidence in their skills by exploring a
range of techniques and mediums in an environment that encourages
playfulness and creativity.
The lessons incorporate a variety of challenges that help students to
develop their problem-solving skills. They learn to consider mistakes
as opportunities to find creative solutions for their art, a skill that
can be translated to countless other aspects of life and learning.
Students are encouraged to express their ideas in creative ways as they
build upon their visual communication ability. They also develop
critical thinking skills by participating in supportive critiques that
reinforce learning and celebrate artistic accomplishments.
In addition to practicing creative techniques and critical thinking,
students discover how other cultures use art to express ideas, and learn
about the history of art. They also become familiar with contemporary
art and artists from their community and around the world.
