The Graham & Parks courtyard garden was designed by a small committee of G&P teachers, parents and CitySprouts staff in 2007 and constructed in 2008. Using Versa-lok manufactured stone blocks that complement the materials of the school, raised garden beds were built around the edges of the courtyard. Materials and labor were generously donated by Bob Purdy Construction. The lovely courtyard has both sun and shade and picnic benches where students and staff can sit. The garden has a shed and two composters.
CitySprouts is a school garden program founded on the principle that all children should experience hands-on learning with real-world applications, support and practice in making good food choices, and a life-long connection to the natural world. CitySprouts’ garden educator is at the Graham & Parks school twice each week during the fall and spring to support teachers' lessons and projects in the school garden. Our FoodCorps service member helps teachers' with projects through the winter. Middle schoolers throughout the city participate in CitySprouts summer program in July and August.
