KarimaWhat do you teach?

I teach ELLs (English Language Learners), students who speak English as a second language or students who speak a language other than English at home. I enjoy teaching students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

How long have you been at G&P?

I have worked at Graham & Parks since November 2014. Where are you from?
I am from Morocco. It is a beautiful country in North Africa. It has the Mediterranean on its north, and the Atlantic Ocean on its west coast. Moroccan people are known for their hospitality and generosity. I left everything behind and crossed the Atlantic to America driven by passion, love and curiosity. Learning about America from far away was insufficient to quench my thirst to know more. I decided to embrace the land of multiculturalism, multilingualism and the coexistence of humans from all over the world.

What are three things every teacher should own?

I believe that every teacher should own love, compassion and patience.

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

I have never thought to be anything else but a teacher. I might have been influenced by three older sisters who are teachers. I grew up in a family that values education and learning. I was a teacher back in my native country as I taught English as a foreign language. I also prepared students to take the TOEFL. My experience teaching English helped me see the difference in the way students acquire and learn different skills.

Teaching motto or favorite education quote?

“The principal goal of education is to create men who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done--men who are creative, inventive and discoverers.” Jean Piaget

What do you love about G&P?

I feel lucky to be part of G&P. This school hosts different cultures and languages incarnated in its staff and students. It is a great representation of the best values and practices of America. It is a school where parents feel welcome, and the children feel safe and secure because they are in the hands of a caring and loving staff.
