Friends of G&P Update: Octoberfest and More!

Thanks for a great Octoberfest! Thanks to the many students, families, staff, and G & P alums who attended Octoberfest on Friday the 23rd! This was the first community event of the year hosted by Friends of Graham and Parks. We particularly want to thank the many fourth and fifth grade student volunteers who did a wonderful job of looking out for the younger children, making the games and crafts run smoothly, handing out prizes, and building school spirit. Many thanks too to the parent and grandparent volunteers!

Some highlights were the Down the Donut game, Glowstick Bowling, Feed the Pumpkin, Pumpkin toss, Tattoos, Lantern Making, and Leaf Arts. It was great to see so many people from countries all over the world, from newborns to grandparents, having a great time together. Kids should feel free contribute a leaf to the thankfulness tree in the front lobby if they have not yet had a chance. And teachers and staff, be sure to read the leaves, which are full of gratitude for the education you are providing!

Octoberfest also kicked off the Winter Weather Clothing Drive, which will continue until the G&P Folk Dance Night on Friday Nov. 6. See clothing drive details below.

Important upcoming dates include: Friends meeting Nov. 2 right after drop off in the lobby, the Friends Pop Up Store in December – and then in January is our Winter Family Fun Night and a Dance-a-Thon!

Family Cultural Exchange Program (FCEP) Update

Family Cultural Exchange Program had a great 1st "First Friday Coffee at Bourbon Coffee a few weeks ago, attended by Graham and Parks parents from around the world. We will be having another coffee on Friday November, 6. Please come and join us if you can. We meet in the school lobby at 8:30AM and then walk to Bourbon Coffee at 1815 Mass Ave. We would love to have more participation from local families and families new to the school. Join us in the lobby to walk over, together, or just meet us there!

For more information please contact Sarah Smith ([email protected]) or Lauren Morse, Family Liaison ([email protected]).

Food Drive

November will bring us the Food Drive. Like last year, boxes will be placed throughout the school to collect donations of non-perishable foods. Gift cards to Market Basket are also hugely appreciated as they are distributed to G&P families in need throughout the year.

If you would like to help with the Food Drive please contact Suzannah McFerran ([email protected]).

G&P Winter Clothing Drive

Please bring in new or gently used children's winter clothing, including: coats, boots, hats, gloves, scarfs, sweaters, sweatshirts and long pants. We will be collecting donations in the school lobby for two weeks, until the Family Night Folk Dance on Friday, November 6.

Volunteers are needed to help sort donations! Please contact Parent Volunteer Kris Dickson at [email protected] or G&P Family Liaison Lauren Morse at 617.349.6577 x115 or [email protected]. Thank you for helping to keep G&P children warm and safe in the snow this winter! Winter Clothing Drive is brought to you by Friends of G&P.
