The theme of this month's assembly was our Graham & Park’s school values, known as C.A.R.E.S. Each first and second grade classroom presented their own unique take on what it means to show our C.A.R.E.S. values throughout the day. Several small groups performed lively skits and “snapshots” to demonstrate reading books quietly in class, asking a peer to join in a game at recess, and enthusiastically raising a hand to answer the teacher’s question. Students then practiced talking about C.A.R.E.S values with friends sitting next to them, using the sentence, “I like it when ____ (name) showed ______(a CARES value) by ___________.” A brave volunteer from each grade had an opportunity to share their C.A.R.E.S value sentences with the entire school. Students spoke of times when their friends showed respect by sharing their toys and kindness by asking a new friend to play.

The assembly wrapped up with the first and second graders leading the school in the C.A.R.E.S. song. Ask your child to sing it for you. But beware; it might get stuck in your head for the next few days!

C-A-R-E-S

R is for respect

When we get along
