CitySprouts

CitySprouts is looking for parents and guardians who are interested and willing to water the garden one day a week from now until November. It would be great if volunteers were available Mondays or Tuesdays after school to water for 30-45 minutes. Interested? Contact Michele at [email protected].

Friends of G&P

The mission of Friends of Graham & Parks is to provide academic enrichment opportunities for every student, promote volunteerism, and engage all G&P families through fund-raising and community-based events. Please join us for our next meeting on October 5th in the front lobby at drop-off. We will discuss plans for our upcoming events and we promise fresh coffee and delicious treats! We are planning a fall festival – Octoberfest – for October 23rd. There will be games, food, and lots of fun activities. We hope to have G&P t-shirts available that day, too. Look out for a flyer that will come home in your child's backpack. Don't forget to check our Friends of G&P bulletin board in the front lobby for all our latest news; as you face the courtyard/garden, it is on the wall to the left. Questions? Email [email protected]

Family Cultural Exchange Program (FCEP)

The Family Cultural Exchange Program (FCEP) welcomes you to a new school year. FCEP, in it's 4th year at Graham and Parks, provides a chance for families to come together outside of school to enjoy socializing and making new friends across all of the different countries and cultures represented at our school.  Whether you are local, or have come to Cambridge from far away, all are welcome to participate! ! We will have a few fun events throughout the year- more information on these events soon.

FCEP will also host a First Friday Coffee on the first Friday of every month at Bourbon Cafe on Massachusetts Avenue, Porter Square. Any parent who may be free on a Friday after drop-off is invited to meet in the school lobby and walk with us to Bourbon Cafe to enjoy coffee and conversation each month. The first one will be on Friday, October 2nd.

If you have any questions about FCEP, please feel free to speak with Sarah Smith (mom of Jay and Dev Parmeshwar, 4th & 1st grade; [email protected]), Mildrid Gédéon (SEI Family Liaison Coordinator, [email protected]), or Lauren Morse (G&P Family Liaison; [email protected]).

Room Parents Update

Many thanks to all the wonderful parents who have stepped up to be Room Parents for their children's classrooms. Room Parents work with their children's teachers to build community within the classroom by supporting the teachers, organizing events and thank you gifts, and putting together the class contact sheets. If you have not filled out the 2015 G&P Classroom Contact Lists Permission Form, please do so as soon as possible and return it to your child's teacher. If you need the form, please contact me at the e-mail listed below.

Some classrooms still need Room Parents. If you are able to help out please let me know. We are also looking for someone to help our librarian Ann Niederkorn with book repair. This is a great way to help out because you can do it at home – Ann will teach you how to repair books and you can take the supplies and books with you and do it in the comfort of your own space.

Many thanks and here's to a great academic year ahead,
Liza Tague, Room Parent Coordinator

The name of the governing body of G&P is the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee, which represents both staff and parents, is the policy-making body of the school. The business of the Steering Committee is to manage the school. It deals with all matters affecting the school, except with issues which are decided exclusively by the School Committee, Cambridge Teachers' Association, and the Superintendent of Schools.
