Our first Assembly of the year is always exciting. We gathered together as a school in the Gym and learned how to quiet down our bodies and our voices when Tony held up the sign, which we got pretty good at after a few practice rounds. The theme of this assembly was our CARES Values. The 5th graders helped us understand CARES by striking a pose to demonstrate each value. The acronym “CARES” embodies the culture of caring that is at the heart of what our school is about… we care about each other, we care about learning, and we care about the world. As always, Debbie Sullivan, the G&P Music Teacher, led us in the CARES song. Ask your child to sing it for you!

C-A-R-E-S

That is what we do

C-A-R-E-S

It’s our golden rule

C is curious

A is aiming high
R is for respect

Everyone must try

E is be engaged

In all you do

S is how I show

Kindness to you

We are all different

And we all belong

We will all succeed

When we get along

assembly - reading dragonTo celebrate the hard work G&P students did over the summer aiming High and being an engaged learner by reading lots of books, we laid out and measured the giant G&P Reading Dragon. Many student volunteers helped Ann Neiderkorn, the G&P Librarian, assemble the Reading Dragon, displaying the hundreds of books read by the students and staff over the summer. It’s always incredible to think about how many books we, as a community, can read! The students favorite part of the Assembly was the Staff Video, where staff showed off their dancing skills and pretended not to work, all to the students delight. Everyone enjoyed seeing the extreme dance skills and the silly moves of their beloved teachers. This year the families got to see the Staff Video during Back-to-School Curriculum Night too. If you missed it, make sure you ask your child about it. It was sure to be a memorable moment for all!
